The First High Country Grains Gathering was held in December 2023, organized by SD student Maya Fontana for her Senior Capstone Project. The Grains Gathering was the culmination of the semester course Contemporary Issues in Sustainable Agriculture: Revitalizing Regional Grain Systems, taught by SD instructor Jay Bost, and was inspired by two events that students attended as part of the class: The Utopian Seed Project's Trial to Table event and the Carolina Ground's Pop Up Markets at their mill. Members of the regional grain chain who students had learned about during the semester came to the event to share their work and sell flours and grains. Students organized tables that highlighted their research about specific grains and prepared samples of dishes using them. This event was the first installment of what we hope will be a yearly event! Thanks to our students, faculty, and community members who made this event possible!
